This course is designed for students who either wish to become a flight attendant or are already flight attendants but would like to refresh or improve their communication skills in English. A typical student will have a B1 or higher level of English on the Common European Framework of Reference.
Tuition is delivered online in a class with a minimum of 8 students per class.
✓ Have an active knowledge of all key individual vocabulary and fixed collocations pertinent to the job of a flight attendant
✓ Understand with ease standard and anticipated language that a flight attendant encounters on a regular basis, both face-to-face and via radio communication
✓ Understand less common language when encountered both face-to-face and via radio communication to a degree where there is no confusion or misunderstanding of key information
✓ Be able to communicate standard and anticipated language that a flight attendant encounters on a regular basis with confidence and intelligibility on the listener’s part, both face-to-face and via radio communication
✓ Be able to communicate effectively, both face-to-face and via radio communication, in less regular or anticipated situations so that both agents can avoid confusion or misunderstanding
✓ Produce clear and intelligible standard pronunciation
✓ Write short, simple texts that are grammatically correct and make use of accurate spelling
Students will be able to produce these similar sounds with a clear distinction between them so that there is no confusion or misunderstanding on the part of the listener as to which word is being spoken
Students will clearly pronounce the final ‘s’ of words and consistently use the correct pronunciation of verbs and adjectives ending in ‘ed’
Students will be able to divide spoken discourse into natural sounding units in order to aid the listener in comprehension and following the discourse
Students will know which words in sentences or phrases to emphasise in order to aid clear communication and convey precise meaning
Students will be able to make appropriate use of intonation to aid clear communication
Additional pronunciation features that emerge during the course through the course tutor’s observations of student’s spoken production will be dealt with as they arise.
